Passcode: 102383

General:
-    SNE Call Launch and IMS Availability
o    Gloria: Asked whether GA approval was required before IMS would become available, as the call requirements mentioned IMS submissions.
o    Botond: Confirmed IMS is being made available immediately, without waiting for GA approval.
o    Marco: Clarified that the call includes a caveat regarding budget risk pending GA approval, but beneficiaries can prepare and decide whether to submit in advance of the deadline.
o    Marco: The original plan was to launch the SNE call jointly with Eva's operations-side call on Friday, but Eva's call had not been finalized; the decision was made to launch the science department's call independently to avoid losing time.
-    MoU with ITER
o    Marco: The physics gaps activities described in the MoU technical specifications document are fully aligned with the annual work plan and would have proceeded even without the MOU, as they were agreed with Alberto prior to the MOU's existence.
-    STAC Meeting Debrief
o    Marco: Presented the carbon-updated priorities for JT-60SA and the tungsten slide
o    Marco: Told STAC it is up to the GA/Bureau to decide whether BEST or priorities documents are presented formally.
o    STAC asked about EUROfusion strategy for BEST; Marco stated no formal strategy exists yet but physics priorities and commissioning/diagnostics ideas are being developed.
o    Marco: Clarified that commissioning activities are led by Richard, not the science department; ITER's involvement is high but the output for EUROfusion is unclear.
o    STAC asked whether their EFPW recommendations had been implemented; Marco cited Nicola's input and noted that those recommendations were not surprising to task force leaders and to the community exhaust experts.
o    Marco: Regarding ADCs, noted grant deliverable report due end of 2027, with risk due to machine availability issues in early 2026 and reduced time in 2027.
o    A light "green check" feedback on STAC's recommendation list will be provided.
o    Emmanuelle: Asked whether STACK meetings with PMU leadership are a regular occurrence; Marco confirmed STACK invites PMU leadership at least twice a year.
-    July 6 MoU Meeting with ITER Agenda
o    Emmanuelle: Proposed a draft agenda for the July 6 meeting, allocating approximately 30 minutes per work package, with a final slot for forward-looking discussion.
o    Emmanuelle: A topical format would have been preferable for deeper technical discussion, but the 2-hour slot makes it impossible; suggested that future on-site meetings at ITER should be full-day topical sessions, with year-end meetings reserved for executive summaries.
o    Marco: Agreed this was his original proposal to Alberto; expressed surprise that the current format emerged with extensive summaries and limited technical discussion time.
o    Emmanuelle: Proposed two formats going forward — a full-day topical on-site meeting and a year-end executive overview.
o    Marco: Noted that ITER tends to discuss modeling activities extensively, so TM's slot may naturally extend into general discussion. – I think this was pertinent to TE slot not TM who is later…
o    Emmanuelle: For TE, proposed 40 minutes; for PWIE (Sebastijan), 30 minutes, for TM 30 minutes Gloria: less time will be needed, but requested a change in the slots for more coherent HFPS reporting
o    Marco: Confirmed Sebastijan's attendance is important for technical discussions; his absence during the TE overview slot is acceptable.
o    Gloria queried if DSO/AC is involved in the meeting since 3.1 Use and validation of analysis workflows for experimental data is mainly involving DSO activities rather than TM.
o    Emmanuelle: Will finalize and circulate the revised agenda to Marco, who will send it to Alberto; awaiting Sebastijan's feedback.
o    Marco: Requested that Alberto provide information on ITER's bilateral activities, as discussed previously; this has been mentioned but not yet reflected in the agenda.
-    Reporting of Internal vs. EUROfusion-Funded Activities for ITER MOU Meeting
Gloria raised the issue of activities done under contracts with IO versus WP TM funded
o    Emmanuelle: Raised the issue of activities conducted partly or fully under internal machine programs rather than EUROfusion funding, making reporting to ITER awkward. Examples include tungsten wall sources work done under WEST's internal program, and ECRH tests on ASDEX done half-internally; these are exactly what Alberto is asking about but are not formally under EUROfusion.
o    Marco: Suggested flagging such activities at the ITER meeting and asking Alberto how he wants to handle reporting of mixed-funding activities; also proposed raising this at COTEC with machine representatives.
o    Marco: Noted that formally, internal program activities are reported to the Commission as accompanying research, providing legal flexibility to mention them; the key is reaching an agreement on how to present them.
o    Emmanuelle: Agreed to raise this at COTEC the following day; framed it as advertising complementary work to ITER, not claiming credit for internal programs.
o    Gloria: Confirmed that 0% funded activities are reported but without a scientific report — only an activity report.  The latter was Marco’s I mentioned the “Technical report” joint to IFS

WPTE:
-    Three machines (ASDEX, TCV, WEST) are currently running campaigns through August; planning for 2027 calls is underway.
-    Target to launch the 2027 participation call in October, but budget approval timing is uncertain (October vs. December GA); may need to proceed with a 27.5% budget assumption or multiple options.
-    Marco: Suggested preparing the call assuming October GA approval; after the July GA, he will have a better sense of the plans. Situation should be clearer by September when DTT reports.
-    Emmanuelle: Clarified that there will be no new call for proposals for 2027 (already launched for two years); instead, a user review meeting in September will assess backlogs, followed by task force leader discussions on shot allocation and a GPM with the community.
-    Emmanuelle: JT-60SA planning is taking significant time; JT-60SA call could be launched right after the October GA.

WPSTEL:
-    Call for participation in the next W7-X experimental campaigns is open, closing July 3. Beneficiaries are uploading proposals to IMS aligned with W7-X research topics and objectives.
-    Ivan: Internal brainstorming is ongoing (with Marcin and Daniel) on the future shape of the stellarator work package or its continuation/modification for FP10.
-    Daniel: EUROfusion and IPP collaborated on the design of the experimental program for W7-X; a large majority of proposals fall within EUROfusion scope, with several specifically aligned with grant deliverables.
-    Daniel: Some proposals initially ranked Priority 2 were successfully proposed for elevation to Priority 1; task force leaders were receptive and constructive arrangements were found.

WPTM:
-    TSVV-H general meeting took place in the UK with good attendance, including UK AI contributors and representatives from Google DeepMind and Ignition Computing
-    The team assisted Marco with slides for the WEST Governing Board
TSVVs PIs have been asked to report by September on the impact of potential scope reduction on ACH support and HPC use.
-    An issue with Barcelona ACH has emerged; Dennis is involved, Xavier discussed directly with Mervi; Gloria  Denis will organize a meeting next week with interested parties (including Gloria,  Sebastijan and Mervi) to clarify the issue and find a resolution.

WPSA:
-    SNE call is out; first two diagnostics experts are starting secondments in August (currently on-site under WPSA support until end of July). João clarified that existing experts must still formally reply to the call, and additional positions (e.g., EDICAM and other systems) remain open.
-    Procurement Agreements (PAs) for OP3 diagnostics are under preparation/finalization. Details of funding sharing between EUROfusion and F4E for these projects are being discussed.
-    Adjustment of WPSA mission plans and related funding is ongoing to support commissioning activities and SNE salaries; changes are relatively minor.

WPPWIE
-    Sebastijan: Preparing for the July 6 ITER meeting; noted the meeting includes JET dust activities, making speaker assignment somewhat delicate.
