General Information

  • Key dates: Bureau 18 September; GA 8–9 October in Crete; Project Board 4–5 November; FP10 Working Group 8 September.
  • Reserve list: Funding priorities among the departments are grouped into P1–P3.
  • FP10: Further discussions should wait for the Commission's strategy, expected around SOFT in September.
  • JT60SA priorities: Carbon and tungsten phase priorities updated. Marco to discuss the formal approval process and accompanying technological priorities with Valerio.
  • Commission feedback on AWP 2026–27: Open data, plasma physics targets, and stronger exploitation of JT60SA and BEST highlighted.
  • ITPA nominations: Yevgen (Energetic Particles), Andrei Litnovsky (Diagnostics), Leonardo Pigatto (MHD Disruptions).
  • Deliverables: Concern raised about Emilia contacting research units directly without involving PLs/WPLs. Future communication should include the relevant management.
  • Grant payments: Budget ceiling issue resolved by including the 2026–27 budget in the reference total; deliverable evaluations can proceed.
  • PMP 2026–27: No decision yet. Marco prefers relying on the existing AWP rather than preparing an additional formal PMP.

 

Work Package Updates

WPTE

  • TCV, ASDEX and WEST restarting shortly.
  • Campaign schedules expected within 1–2 weeks.

JT60SA

  • July workshop successful; next workshop planned for October.
  • SNE selection completed; most candidates expected to start on 1 December.
  • OP2 Level 3 timeline preparation progressing well.

WPTM

  • Five TSVV annual meetings planned for October–December. (A, B, E joint to PWIE,  joint I-J, K)
  • Six papers submitted for APS Chicago.
  • IMEG meeting (=ITER Integrated Modelling Expert Group) planned for 8-10 September at IO.

WPPWIE

  • Annual meeting planned for 16-20 November in Aix-en-Provence, including WEST and ITER visits and WPTM/TSVV-E, WPTE presentations.
  • TOMAS ICRH antenna issue may shift activities from 2026 to 2027.
  • Accelerator downtime affected sample analysis.
  • Regulatory issues with radioactive sample transport from Finland to MOL may delay JET divertor sample distribution.

WPSTEL

  • W7-X restart on schedule; first plasma expected next week.
  • Resource reallocation requests under review.
  • Pregnancy-related EEG grant pause request was rejected by PMU; Marcin will forward the case to Marco, and the issue may also be raised with Gianfranco.

WPSA

  • VUV CCD replacement and testing completed; alignment confirmed.
  • Divertor installation planned for the end of September; some components were damaged during transport.
  • Remote PC access remains delayed.
  • SNE candidate supporting the EDICAM diagnostics on site January–June 2027 is accepted by QST.
  • Pulse design simulator (PDS) demonstration successful; a training event in EU is proposed
