DIFFER activities in 2021: Erosion rates of W model systems in MAGNUM-PSI – plans and capabilities 10mSpeaker: Tom Morgan
- Low-Te/high-ne D plasmas in MAGNUM-PSI --> influence of seeding impurities, are they entrained in the plasma beam, and what happens to eroded W in MAGNUM-PSI conditions?
- Target, witness plate and insulator next to each other --> QCM and spectrocopy for gross erosion, RBS and XRF, NRA, TDS for post exposure analyses
- Sebastijan: witness plate could have a marker layer, maybe markers also on the insulator
- Marek: but markers may change thermomechanical properties? However, multiple samples so some may have marker layers, some not
- Per: implantation as a marker? Or FIB cuts --> collaboration with FZJ!

ENEA activities in 2021: Effective sputtering yields of W model systems in GyM – plans and capabilities 8mSpeaker: Andrea Uccello
- GyM experiments: low Ti and flux 1021, manipulator system for exposing 4 samples simultaneously --> W model systems with varying morphologies (columnar and porous layers by PLD, also Laura's W-graphene heterostructures, also similar roughness samples as those produced for PFC)
- First experiments foreseen in He --> morphology evolution as well as data for simulation efforts (in SP D)
- Spectroscopy, weighing, SEM, AFM, QCM --> anything else?
- Marek and Sebastijan: motivation for the work? in reactor we know that instead of nice and shiny pure W, we will have something else, including impurities and evolving morphologies; how about some witness/catch-up plates --> deposited material; think also about FIB cuts
- Ion-beam analyses, also TEM analyses of relevant meshes missing --> Action on AH

ENEA activities in 2021: Hypervelocity dust impacts – plans and capabilities 7mSpeaker: Marco de Angeli
- Erosion by hypervelocity dust impacts, observed in FTU --> dust-gun system will be applied, W dust already ordered
- Hypervelocity dust occur from runaways, DEMO-relevant but this may not be an issue for ITER/JET (where Be first wall) --> scoping studies in 2021
- Morphology studies in the first place, maybe collaboration with IPPLM --> action on AH

ÖAW activities in 2021: Effective sputtering yields of W model systems – plans and capabilities 10mSpeaker: Christian Cupak
- Collaboration with VR, samples with W coatings on top, lab system with an ion source and QCM; catcher system recently upgraded to be usable for both erosion and deposition studies
- #1: create and characterize re-deposited layers, #2: experiments on W, #3: experiments on W with re-deposits
- Sebastijan: how rough surfaces can be modelled using SPRAY? Depends on the geometry! Recommendation to connect to other codes under SP D.

VR activities in 2021: Characterization of samples from laboratory erosion and dust experiments – plans and capabilities 10mSpeaker: Daniel Primetzhofer
- Ion beam analyses --> collaboration with ÖAW and ENEA; ENEA side mainly related to the dust samples (if needed)
- RBS, TOF-ERDA, PIXE, NRA (but focus not so much on retention here); MEIS and LEIS available
- Sebastijan: analysis capabilities table to be updated --> action on AH (also size, weight, Be, radioactive materials capabilities) --> together with Jari
- Sebastijan: isotope-enriched W, can isotopes be distinguished? Quite tough, mainly AMS or SIMS are left! How about micro-NRA resolution? a few microns, typical system

IAP activities in 2021: Be and W dust formed during air and water leaks – plans and capabilities 10mSpeaker: Cristian Lungu
- Lungu for Be dust, Acsente for W dust; target to characterize dust properties in off-normal conditions (water or air leaks)
- Analysis tools: EDX, SEM, XPS, TDS; 2021 target is to increase H2 content (W dust part)
- Marek: what has the produced dust to do with tokamaks? Try to mimic what has been created in JET (publications pending!) --> discharges to be brought closer to fusion-reactor conditions

12:05
Discussion on tasks and identification of gaps 15m
- Francesco: where to place catcher plates for dust in GyM? Consult modellers for most suitable places!
- Francesco: surface roughness important, to be fully analyzed, single parameter not enough (also an issue for tokamak samples)
- Marcin: FIB markers --> organize a separate meeting --> action on AH
- Dina: can assist with ion-beam analyses of GyM samples --> action on AH
