FSD Science meeting - IMAS & Databases (Part ||)

Europe/Berlin
Description

The main goal of the meeting is to bring together relevant information from different parts of the work programme and discuss the current staus of the Integrated Modelling & Analysis Suite (IMAS). What is available and what needs to be developed?

    Meeting ID: 896 6442 3872
    Passcode:   265549

During the 1st IMAS science meeting following following topics were addressed:

  • IMASification of machine data (example of WEST);

  • IMASification of codes (example of HFPS);

  • Opening of machine data for scientific/public use (Fair4Fusion initiative).

The goal of the present meeting is to wrap up the discussions on the IMAS (as a comon platform for EUROfusion codes) and on the data provided (moving towards FAIR).

    • 10:30 10:50
      Codes adaptation to IMAS

      The aim of this session is to have the overview on the code adaptation to IMAS and the support provided through the Advanced Computing Hub.

    • 10:50 11:20
      Wrapping Up: IMAS Development

      Free discussions, summary, open issues

      Convener: Denis Kalupin (EUROfusion PMU)

      Following issues were discussed and need to be addressed:

      • IMAS development:
        • New requirements shall be addressed to ITER;
        • Are there any urgent developments needed (3D-equilibrium, Summary IDS to include long pulse data)?
      • IMAS @ EUROfusion machines:
        • WEST is fully compatible;
        • Other machines are partially compatible ( machine-specific tools to transform experimental data into IDS format):
          • TRVIEW, ReadAUG (AUG)
          • IMASgo, UDA (MAST, JET, K-Star, DIII-D)
          • TCV2IDS (TCV)
          • IMAS at JT-60SA and DEMO ?
          • integration of stallarator community?
      • IMAS use by EUROfusion codes:
        • TSVV codes required to be IMAS compatible (part of EUROfusion Standard Software definition);
        • Trainings and tutorials by ACH-IPPLM

      Action [PMU, W7X PL]: organise the meeting on extension of IDSs to include stellarator and long pulse data

      Action [PMU, IO]: coordinate on ProfileMaker development

    • 11:20 12:00
      Available Data

      This session aims to provide the overview on the data currently available to EUROfusion users in IMAS format and means to access them.

    • 12:00 12:30
      Wrapping Up: Databases
      Convener: Dr Denis Kalupin (EUROfusion PMU)

      Following issues were discussed and need to be addressed:

      • Data validation:
        • Who is responsible for the validation of machine data?
        • Systematic validation might require additional resources to support activities.
        • Shall the access to none-validated data be allowed (for whom)?
      • Open data access (EU driven requirement):
        • Level of openness (graph/simulation data/processed diagnostic data/ raw signals);
        • FAIRness of data;
        • Moratoriums/embargos for some data;
      • Implementation:
        • Pilot project?
        • Central repository, LTSSF?

      Action [PMU]: organise the meeting on the status/use of AMNS data in IMAS (codes interested in AMNS? which data are needed?  critical mass of data? IPR and legal aspects? formalising AMNS activities?)
