Overview of SP B and SP B.5 in 2023Speaker: Antti Hakola (TEKES / VTT)
-
2
Be dust formation – plans for 2023 and comparison against JET-ILW resultsSpeaker: Corneliu Porosnicu (IAP)
- Proposal for using new arcing-type of device for producing Be dust inside crucibles and analysis of the produced dust afterwards --> relies on brushing the crucible for dust accumulated on the surfaces
- Controlled scanning of the parameter space to see what is critical in producing dust as at JET-ILW or why in JET so little dust is produced after all --> what is the physics reason for this?
- Recommendations to use also Si collector wafers, mounted on the crucible walls
- Analysis programme of the dust samples to be defined afterwards --> RBI already committed to performing some part of the measurements within the PMs allocated to them under SP B.2/SP B.3
- In 2024, proceed to more complex conditions, e.g., considering the role of pure sputtering, melting etc. besides arcing
- Check the status of the task in May
-
3
W dust formation – plans for 2023 and comparison against DEMO safety caseSpeakers: Gheorghe Dinescu (IAP), Tomy Acsente
- Study the production of W dust particles in D2 - and assess the role of different parameters on the production rate and the properties of the dust particles (e.g., applied energy, amount of Ar added etc.)
- In 2024, the studies can be expanded to arcing-type of sources, making possible to compare the outcomes of Be and W tasks
- Progress of the task to be followed up in May-June
-
4
Hypervelocity dust impacts – plans for 2023Speaker: Dr Marco De Angeli (ENEA-CNR Milan)
- Expose W or W+O co-deposits into hypervelocity dust beam --> properties of the co-deposits to be agreed on in the SP B.1&SP B.4 kick-off meeting on Friday
- Analysis programme of the exposed samples to be agreed later on --> depend on what we see, can consider here RBI (for compositional analyses) and IPPLM (additional microscopy)
- In 2024, can consider also W+O+D2 samples and investigate (e.g., using TDS) how D2 content changes upon exposure
- To be followed up in June-July
-

Dust investigations on AUG and WEST – 2023 plansSpeakers: Martin Balden (IPP), Volker Rohde
- Focus in 2023 on the AUG dust samples and their analyses and trying to get an idea of the main dust production mechanisms --> extrapolation only to happen in latter years
- WEST samples mainly handled by CEA --> can refer to the published data in a PhD dissertation
- Additional analyses from C5 samples can also be made for the characteristics of dust on them --> e.g., IPPLM is interested
- To be followed-up in June-July
-
