Call for Contributions by 18 December 2024

Please register your interest by 18 December 2024 through the registration page to participate in the workshop in person or remotely, as well as your interest to give a presentation on the different subjects listed in the agenda. Topics not listed below but related to ECRH systems can be proposed as well.

There will be no workshop fee to attend the workshop.

Topic (Chair) Potential topics
EC Plant operation (H. Laqua, IPP)

Procedures and control parameters including:

  • EC Power Supplies

  • Gyrotrons auxiliaries

  • Registration of operating hours (HV and filament)

  • Main parameters for Waveguides (or optical chamber)

  • Power/frequency diagnostics

Critical EC potential candidates for re-designing (J-P. Hogge, EPFL)
  • Gyrotron phase locking for beam combining -> reducing the number beams

  • Gyrotron control and automatic recovery for increasing reliability

  • ECRH-power control and single gyrotron loss compensation-> increasing total ECRH reliability

  • Optimal power distribution at collector surface

Gyrotrons evolution (F. Albajar, F4E)
  • Higher power (1.5 - 2 MW)

  • Higher efficiency (above 50%, if needed)

  • Higher Frequency-> high field fusion devices

  • Higher reliability and (much) higher lifetime,

(topics related to more general item: industrialization)

Power Supplies, Transmission Lines and Launchers (L. Delpech, CEA)
  • Connection from grid to gyrotron (Power supplies)

  • Connection from gyrotron to the device:

  • Windows

  • Transmission lines

  • Optical paths

  • Power combination

  • Dummy Loads

  • EC Launchers

  • Background and decisions made in past

Interlock protection systems (S. Illy, KIT)
  • Control System

  • Interlocks and Protections

  • Mode Recovery implementation

  • Beam Current control

  • Other topics
Test facilities (C. Darbos, IO)
  • Current test facilities:  JT-60SA, FALCON and FULGOR

  • Need for new testing platforms for EC plants

  • Possible strategies to increase on the number of test benches (ITER, DTT, UKAEA)

  • Cost, candidates

Staff needs (Z. Ioannidis, NKUA)
  • New need on personnel for our facilities

  • Profiles (engineers or physicists, junior or senior)

  • Internships at operating installations

EC and EBW, longer term view (M. Henderson, UKAEA)
  • Needs and parameters

  • What is achievable
