Academic Programme

 

General lectures

The first week of the school focuses on general lectures covering a wide range of topics from tokamak and sub-systems, basic notions of plasma physics, plasma scenarios to tokamak operation.

 

Visits

Several visits including the tokamak hall, auxiliary systems, diagnostics laboratories and the JT-60SA control room allow a unique in-depth comprehensive insight into the world's largest tokamak. 

 

Topical lectures

The theme of the 2025 edition is Innovations in Fusion. 

  • Diagnostic developments
  • Advanced control and the use of AI
  • First wall and divertor materials
  • Superconducting coils

 

Practical exercises

The school programme includes 8 sessions of practical exercises, connected with the previous lectures, for which students will be divided into 5 groups of 4. 

 

Students' presentations

Students will have the opportunity to present their research at the end of week 1 of the school. In Week 2, students will be asked to give a short 10 minute presentation each on results obtained in the practical exercise sessions. 

 

Social programme

The school provides multiple opportunities for students and lecturers to interact, learn about each other's cultures and spend time together.
