FuseNet Association
FuseNet is the European Fusion Education Network and has been a non-profit association since 2010. FuseNet is composed by around 65 European member organisations active in nuclear fusion between universities, research centres and companies.
The role of FuseNet is to provide a platform for the coordination of European fusion education activities, the initiation, development and implementation of new EU-wide actions, and for the exchange and dissemination of fusion education information. FuseNet aims to contribute in the education and training of the upcoming fusion workforce for ITER and beyond, where more job profiles are needed. Additionally, we believe that tertiary and higher education have a critical role in social mobility (incl. addressing gender & ethnic biases). That is, a more diverse community starts with younger education.
To reach our aim, we believe it is essential to build a broad network, across all educational levels, across all European countries. Therefore, FuseNet formulates as its ideal, the following vision: Everyone in Europe should have access to quality fusion education appropriate for their role in society. And as a mission statement: Building a network of people to make fusion a reality. The following principles are guiding: accessibility, mobility, excellence, diversity, community.
FuseNet aims to coordinate education, provide access to opportunities and establish a robust network for the future fusion workforce.
As its principal activity, FuseNet provides financial support to Master students to undertake fusion-focused internships abroad and to attend fusion educational events. FuseNet also develops quality study material according to the needs of fusion education and makes these materials available, along with others, on its Educational Materials browser. On its Matchmaking Browser, FuseNet collects fusion jobs, internships and student projects in labs and industry from its network of members. FuseNet stimulates workshops and organizes events with the aim to share knowledge and strengthen connections. FuseNet stimulates (remote) accessibility to experimental equipment around Europe. FuseNet stimulates quality by awarding thesis prizes and formulating academic criteria.
FuseNet’s primary contract is with EUROfusion, the European Consortium for the Development of Fusion Energy. FuseNet is an affiliated entity to EUROfusion and operates under EUROfusion’s TRED (Training and Education) Work Package.
"The stimulation of FuseNet as a learning platform for all educational levels, should increase the pool of skilled people across Europe." [EUROfusion FP9 Proposal].
