ETS-6 News

Tj Describe details of merged branches on indico

No comments or questions

TJ presented slides

  • New ETSInit features
  • New EQInput code parameters

AP asked is pressure including thermal

  • TJ: Yes, they include both thermal and non-thermal.

MP asked for clarifications on which things are calculated by ETS

TJ asked about dealing flux-based boundary conditions for impurities with multiple charge states

  • DC said it may require some further model. We may add a feature when set the flux proportional to the coronal charge-state density

Discussion on how to deal with boundary conditions for charge states

  • AP to find his work on how to set boundary condition that ensure an ambipolar flux.

Actions from previous meetings

NEOWES testing needs addressing

DC suggested that we promote runs to the public database

DECISION - agreed. Process is to write a short description and sent to Pär. TJ, should discuss further at tech-dev this afternoon with EWE.

40: PENN code testing beginning this week; IMAS version is expected to be available next week.

49: fixed and working

Further actions already added before the meeting, all assigned to TJ

DY - Asked about impurity update.

  • TJ answered that only the static computation-mode is implemented and tested. Predictive mode is implemented last year by Denis, but never tested - also impurity actor is not yet in the workflow. Interpretative and concentration not ready yet. Next step to look at concentration cases. Use latest develop branch.
  • DY - need meeting with TJ and Irena.

Discussion on Z-effective:

  • DC: We need Zeff computation modes for both main ions and impurities.

Energy equations in core_transport IDSs

  • IDS definition and ETS don’t agree. Change IDS definition?
  • PS: Should favour ETS definition

DECISION - Open JIRA tracker to have the IDS definition amended - Pär to write tracker

      Merged branches:

      • codeparams - updates to the ETS-Init code parameters, inc. new computational modes and boundary conditions for impurities (e.g. based on concentrations)
      • equation_type - reorganise the internal types for the transport equation such that:
        • the same type is used for all equations;
        • to store also the equation mode - the same identifiers are now used both in the IDSs and in the internal structure to avoid confusion.
      • outputHyperdiffusion - store hyper diffusion in the output IDSs
      • eqinput - implement p = (p_par+p_perp)/2 and adds code-parameter options to select how to get the pressure.
