- Matej: erosion with the help of grooves --> not that easy
- Marcin: any samples to FZJ?
- We will discuss the analysis capabilities separately! --> action on AH
-

FZJ activities in 2021: analysis of W7-X, WEST, and AUG wall tiles – plans and capabilities (SP B.2 and SP B.3)Speaker: Marcin Rasinski
- Capabilities: IBA, microscopy, LIBS --> both for SP B.2 and SP B.3
- AUG samples: continue analyses of W fuzz samples (from 2019), correlation between grain orientation and fuzz formation
- W7-X: continue 13C analyses on various TDUs, LIBS vs. IBA cross check
- WEST: C4 marker tiles, wants to be involved --> action on AH
- Other activities: ps-LIBS of samples exposed in PSI-2, impact of loading on MAGNUM-PSI samples
- WEST samples: focus on areas by TEM where there are interesting features to be learnt, Martin has a huge database of SEM images --> can be used for identifying areas of interest!
-
5
MPG activities in 2021: analysis of AUG and WEST samples and samples from MAGNUM-PSI – plans and capabilities (SP B.2)Speaker: Martin Balden
- AUG samples: marker samples (2020) waiting for analyses; gap samples from Karl available; samples exposed to reversed Ip/Bt --> analysis of interesting deposits; samples from boron dropper experiment; melt samples; arcing samples
- Maybe 1, 2, and 5 under B.2, while 3, 4, and 6 under B.3
- WEST samples: C4 marker samples, erosion and surface modifications but also arcing of interest
- MAGNUM-PSI samples: analysis of samples from SP A experiments (monoblocks)
- Emmanuelle: comparison between AUG and WEST concerning deposited layers!
- Mathilde: C5 tiles analysis schedule? Analysis can be started in 2021 but finished in 2022!
-
6
MPG activities in 2021: analysis of W7-X samples – plans and capabilities (SP B.2 and SP B.3)Speaker: Matej Mayer (IPP)
- Old W7-X samples: (i) OP 1.2b samples/tiles analyzed, results presented in PFMC; (ii) re-deposition of carbon assessed and also presented in PFMC but SEM analyses only in 2021
- New W7-X samples: pre-characterization of W-coated tiles --> measurements done, analyses ongoing
- Sebastijan: no new tiles taken out in 2022, think about the strategy for closing existing gaps (cracks, damages)in the meantime; how about extrapolations to long-pulse operations?
- Joint meeting with W7-X, SP B and modelling groups --> action on Sebastijan
-
7
JSI activities in 2021: analysis of roughness samples and components from AUG and WEST – plans and capabilities (SP B.2 and SP B.3)Speakers: Matjaz Panjan, Sabina Markelj (JSI)
- SP B.2 (Sabina): roughness samples (produced in Milan, both lab experiments and AUG exposures) --> needs to be put together in the form of a publication --> action on AH
- SP B.2 (Sabina): microbeam measurements (NRA, PIXE) for old roughness samples and gap samples --> agreement with Iva's data; issues with the PIXE detector --> delays for analyses
- SP B.2 (Sabina): new roughness samples to be characterized with improved spatial resolution as well as WEST samples
- Results from Au marker samples to be reported in the midterm meeting!
- SP B.3 (Matjaz): focus points differences between W and WN coatings; capable of doing SEM, OM, and microscopy
- Sebastijan: check which materials can be done, no carbides!
- XPS pool quite restricted --> action on AH
-
8
RBI activities in 2021: ion-beam analyses of AUG, WEST, and W7-X samples – plans and capabilities (SP B.2)Speaker: Iva Bogdanovic Radovic
- IBA of samples: (i) gap samples (PIXE), (ii) Au marker samples (PIXE, RBS in um-scale), (iii) characterization of dust from AUG (micro-NRA), (iv) analyses of WEST samples (RBS, TOF-ERDA)
- Martin: correlate Iva's WEST results with Martin's database, variations not too strong, why?
- Emmanuelle: do also profiling in the other direction (top to bottom)! Mathilde will send slides on shadowing to Iva --> action on Mathilde
- In addition to WEST samples, new AUG samples becoming available!
-
9
VTT activities in 2021: analysis of AUG, WEST, and W7-X samples – plans and capabilities (SP B.2 and SP B.3)Speaker: Antti Hakola (TEKES / VTT)
-
10
IPPLM activities in 2021: microscopy analyses of AUG, WEST, W7-X and reference samples – plans and capabilities (SP B.2 and SP B.3)Speaker: Elzbieta Fortuna-Zalesna (IPPLM)
- W7-X samples: cut into small pieces and sent to IPPLM --> analyses ongoing
- WEST samples: 3 samples already received --> SEM and FIB, W splashes observed; question on how much coating is in the grooves and how much deposit --> not an easy task (to be used as a reference for erosion studies)
- AUG samples: at the moment no needs
- FTU samples: can be finished in 2021 (leftover from FP8)
- Other samples: MAGNUM-PSI or PSI-2 samples only later, GyM samples from ENEA --> action on AH
- Sebastijan: real WP DIV monoblocks from MAGNUM-PSI to be analyzed? --> action on Sebastijan
-

VR activities in 2021: ion-beam analyses of AUG, WEST, and W7-X samples – plans and capabilities (SP B.2)Speaker: Per Petersson
- Low-Z analyses by TOF-ERDA: WEST samples analyzed --> confirm the existence of Cu (and/or Ni); also D observed at large depths on the samples
- W7-X samples still pending, also to be cut (12 x 12 mm2 is OK)
- In situ IBA + others (e.g. TDS up to 1550 degrees) following implantation --> action on AH to think about applications (sample size 10 x 10 mm2)
- MEIS/LEIS operational
-
12
IST activities in 2021: ion-beam analyses of WEST samples – plans and capabilities (SP B.3)Speaker: Eduardo Alves

NCSRD activities in 2021: analysis of reference and plasma-exposed samples – plans and capabilities (SP B.3)Speaker: Konstantina Mergia (National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”)
-
14
Discussion on tasks and identification of gaps
- Coordinated action to check the data obtained from analysis of different samples by different methods/labs --> action on AH to think about
- Separate here the analyses of tokamak/stellarator samples (responsibility of machine representative or PIs) and analyses of reference samples (dedicated person needed)
-
