General PSD Management Meeting - Minutes

General PSD Information

  • It’s not yet confirmed from where the budget for JT-60SA exploitation will come.
  • Budget for scientific exploitation to be sent by WPTE, with all the diagnostics in the next two years covered by WPSA and F4E. But after, when the system is fully available for scientific exploitation these activities should be covered by WPTE.
  • What F4E SNE (Seconded National Experts) colleagues will be doing is yet to be fully confirmed.
  • Participation on scientific exploitation during integrated commissioning is being considered within WPTE.
  • The objective is that division of responsibilities between WPSA and WPTE are clear, for instance when enhancement projects are handed over.
  • The confusion between training, operations and scientific exploitation needs to be clarified. This has been brought to the attention of the EUROfusion Programme Manager.
  • Operational activities of JT-60SA, ITER, BEST, DTT need to be organized inside EUROfusion.
  • Operations is a cross section of scientific, engineering and operation aspects which also requires input from F4E.
  • It’s important to develop a document that address all these issues.
  • No update on the JET Data access issue, with this currently on the hands of the European Commission
  • It’s being analysed when ITER will reach the different readiness levels.
  • Assessment on stelarator line is being done exclusively on the Physics side.
  • There’s a debate on what would be the relevant input of a tokamak component test facility to the stelarator development line.
  • The final document to be published in December will certainly be made available the question is if the intermediate version will be.
  • Update of PMPs if required will be handled by Botond using the Annual Work Plans to avoid putting this on the Project Leaders.
  • The work on the PMP that is being discussed is to add to the 2021-2025 document the next two years.
  • DTT is delayed to 2032.
  • News item came out on the ADC (DIFFER).
  • W7X code development and performance news were published in the Summer.
  • WPTE RT04 news on control is being considered.
  • PWIE news to be delayed to November.
  • Extension proposal for 2026-2027 after the General Assembly.

WPTE News

  • The request is for proposals to be as large, structured and multi-machine as possible.
  • EPS plenary discussion are ongoing.
  • IAEA rehearsals almost completed.
  • RT11 is better clarified in 2026-2027 than in the past. But maybe here can be further updates.
  • Work on revision is ongoing especially on RT04. The sooner this is done the better as this needs to be handed by STAC.
  • PSI invited ideas to be sent to Marco.

WPW7X news

  • Call was confusing for responders. In the future this might need to be done in a different way or with better clarification and streamlining.
  • There’s a question if responders ask for more than what is realistic because they know there will be cuts.
  • There’re research units typically more interested in tokamak work that also now replied to the call.

WPPWIE News

  • Tritium accounting at JET is very challenging for the colleagues in the UK and for who is working on this.
  • For instance there’s outgassing and therefore there are numbers that show higher value than what was injected.
  • The 40 PM by the UKAEA doesn’t include the tritium accounting work.
  • The idea is to have everything clarified on the analysis of the proposals by the end of the week.
  • Cross check ENRs work that may be relevant to the work package.
  • It might be possible that some RUs don’t accept the counterproposals because the funding is below what they consider to be a minimal level.

WPSA News

  • Use of EDICAM in real time being considered for OP2.
  • Raw data is not yet accessible.
  • The partially accepted proposals have cuts because of a lack of resources and some consistency issues in what was proposed.

Any Other Business

  • There’re 11 TSVVs and 11 proposals were received.
  • Digital twin proposals have a major overbooking by a factor of 2.
  • Some of these proposals are the continuation of work being done until now under PrIO.
  • Organize meeting in 2026 between TSVVs PIs and Work Package Leaders but interface with WPs needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
