IAP activities in 2023: Sample preparation and TDS and GDOES analysis of JET samples- plans 10mSpeaker: Edi Grigore
Edi Grigore:
- GDOES analysis of divertor core samples from 14IWG1A completed in 2022
- Be migrated to depths of ~25um at the bottom of tile 1 and up to depths of ~50um near the top of the tile
- Sample 12d from apron (top horisontal part) of tile 1 was not suitable for GDOES anlaysis
- Action on Jari to check if any other normal core from apron of tile 1 could be sent to IAP
- Analysis plan for 2023: GDOES analysis of core samples from tiles 4, 6, 7 and 8
Bobi Porosnicu:
- Cutting of IWGL tile with runaway electron damage successfully cut and optical microscopy completed
- Single castellations from this IWGL tile sent to IST for IBA analysis and to FZJ for metallographic investigations
- Cutting of W lamellae completed and samples sent to various RUs.
- TDS analysis of divertor samples and Be castellations completed, next step is to compare GDOES and TDS results with each other
- Bobi presented other capabilities at IAP (tritiation of samples, nanointendation, XPS, LIBS...)
- Action on Jari to check if louvre clips need to be cut up

IPPLM activities in 2023: Electron microscopy and nanoindentation of JET PFCs – plans 10mSpeaker: Elzbieta Fortuna-Zalesna (IPPLM)
- Nanohardness of Langmuir probes (LP) 1 and 5 measured
- probe 5: clear difference in hardness values for the tip and base
- ISP was occasionally on stack B which could explain the differences in hardness for LP5
- Only small differences between base and tip for LP1 (LP1 located on stack A which was mainly in SOL)
Plans for 2023:
- Nanoindentation of Langmuir probe No. 3.
- FIB cross-sections to assess the grain size in individual zones of LPs.
- More observations on the probes’ sidewalls to try to corelate surface morphology/chemical composition to Per Petersson's IBA results
- XRD measurements (if possible)
- TEM examinations of sub-surface structure
- More SEM observations
- Core sample from Tile 0
- Nanohardness of Langmuir probes (LP) 1 and 5 measured

ISPP_UL activities in 2023: Tritium and composition analysis of JET samples – plans 10mSpeaker: Elina Pajuste (University of Latvia)
- ISSP_UL has several techniques for tritium (T) measurements: TDS, full combustion (FC) and dissolution
- Detection of T is based on proportional counter or liquid scintillation
- TDS and FC analysis of samples form HFGC tile completed and agreement is good when results in T amount/g are compared
- Plan for 2023:
- long term baking of divertor samples from tiles 0 (HFGC) and 1
- dissolution/etching of W lamellae samples
- SEM/EDX analysis of cross sectional samples from tiles 0 and 1 to determine thickness of co-deposited layers
- FT-IR analysis of louvre clips
- Action for Jari
- send the cross sectional divertor samples to ISPP_UL
- send the louvre clips

IST activities in 2023: IBA analysis of JET PFCs – plans 10mSpeaker: Norberto Catarino
- PFC and side surface of Be samples 788 and 789 from RE damaged IWGL tile analysed with RBS and PIXE
- PIXE showed D, Ni and W deposition on the side surface
- PFC surface has D, C, O, Ni and W deposition
- Pre- and post-baking analysis has been performed using IBA for samples from HFGC tile exposed either during ILW1-3 or in ILW3
Plans for 2023:
- Analysis of Be bulk samples for baking simulation studies
- Analysis of bulk W samples to compare with TDS
- NDF data analysis for IWGL tile with RE damage
- IBA analysis of core samples from divertor tiles 4, 6, 7 and 8
- IBA analysis of mirror cassettes (tubes)-TBC

VR activities in 2023: IBA analysis of JET PFCs – plans 10mSpeaker: M. Rubel/P. Petersson
Plan for 2023:
- Divertor samples from tiles 4, 6, 7 and 8 (exposed for ILW2+3)
- Co-deposited layers on these tiles typically very thin so analysis depth of ~350nm should be sufficient on most cases
- Before shipping any core samples discussions needed to determine how many and which samples will be shipped to VR
- Analysis of Langmuir probes using HIERDA
- Analysis of mirror cassettes, baffles and tubes need further discussions because deposition on the tubes installed inside the cassettes had very little deposition during the JET C-wall. Most likely tubes exposed during ILW has even less deposition
