ENEA activities in 2024: Participation in the LIBS experiment at VTT and at JET using RH, and in the data analysis of CF LIBS - plans 15mSpeaker: Almaviva (ENEA)
- Status of the LIBS system to be used with RH boom at JET was presented
- Prototype LIBS toll has been developed at ENEA
- It will be equipped with the optical fiber and the spectrometer to be used at JET
Tasks in 2024:
- The setup will be tested at VTT on JET relevant samples
- ENEA will participate in the LIBS experiments at VTT and at JET
- Data analysis with CF LIBS of VTT and JET experiments

FZJ activities in 2024: Participation in the LIBS experiment at VTT and at JET using RH, and in the data analysis of CF LIBS, Characterization of JET divertor tiles with LID-QMS and TDS, and metallography – plans 15mSpeaker: T. Dittmar (FZJ)
Status:
- FZJ designed spectrometer for LIBS set-up on remote handling arm in JET
- LIBS@JET, Littrow spectrometer and photomulipliers to be delivered to JET in Feb 2024
- LID-QMS analysis of core samples from tiles 0 and 1 will be completed in February
- TDS analysis of Be samples exposed in ILW1-3 completed
Plans for 2024:
- Agreed about LID-QMS analysis of Be limiter tile 2XR10 (ILW3) for poloidal D profile
- Completion of metallography of W lamellae samples, Langmuir probes and IWGL samples with RE damage
- Transfer of spectrometer to JET, and commisioning and calibration
- Participation in the LIBS experiments at VTT and JET
- Fredis will be out of operations from 2nd half of 2024 for an extended period due to construction work on the new hot cells in the same room as FREDIS

IAP activities in 2024: Analysis of samples from JET divertor tiles with TDS and GDOES - plans 15mSpeakers: C. Porosnicu (IAP), E. Grigore (IAP)
Tasks in 2024:
- Cutting of limiter tiles and W lamellae
- Samples (limiter, W lamellae, louvre clip ) to be shipped for analysis to FZJ, CCFE, IPPLM, UoL and VTT
- Sample preparation for GDOES and TDS
- TDS analysis of Be samples
- Louvre clip samples: chemical structure of co-deposits with XPS
- Fuel retention studies using GDOES and TDS
Discussion on sample analyses:
- W samples can be analysed with GDOES (sample size has tto be 16mm)
- Analysis of Be castellation samples not possible because they are too small
- Be coated Inconel samples can be analysed with GDOES
- Be samples for LIBS experiments at VTT analysed under SPB
- XRD also available for SPE
Actions:
- Meetings with CCFE and VTT to discuss about cutting of limiter tiles and W lamellaes
- Comparison of GDOES data with other analysis results for D retention in divertor tiles
- Distribution of limiter and W lamellae samples

Tasks in 2024:
- Nanoindentation and microscopy of Langmuir probes 16IN 5, 7, 8, 9 and W lamellae samples from stack A, C, D
- Preparation of an article reporting the results for W lamellae samples from stack B
- Participation in the LIBS experiments at VTT and at JET
- Data analysis of LIBS spectra, especially pre-processing for optimisation for machine learning models
- Validation of the machine learning models developed on synthetic data

ISPP_UL activities in 2024: Participation in the LIBS experiment at VTT and at JET using RH, and in the data analysis of CF LIBS, Tritium and composition analysis of JET samples – plans 15mSpeakers: J. Butikova (ISPP_UL), E. Pajuste (ISPP_UL)
Tasks in 2024:
- Completion of fuel retention studies using FC, TDS (simulation of C39 baking cycle) and SEM
- Analysis of samples from W lamellae (stack A, C, D)
- Louvre clip: chemical structure of co-deposits using FT-IR and other technique if necessary
- Tritium measurements by electrochemical dissolution of W lamellae samples, TDS and full combustion (for full tritium recovery FC performed also after dissolution and TDS)
- Preparation of paper on baking studies
- Participation in the LIBS experiments at VTT and at JET
- Data analysis of LIBS spectra
Actions:
- Shipment of W lamellae samples (from stacks A, C, D) to ISSP_UL after cutting
- Shipment of louvre clip samples to ISSP_UL for FT-IR analyses

Tasks in 2024:
- Completion of analysis of IBA results for divertor tiles 4, 7, 8
- IBA analysis of limiter tiles 2XR9 (exposed in ILW2+3) and 4D23 (ILW3)
- IBA analysis of mirror cassettes and tubes
Other analyses:
- Rotating collectors (ILW3) measured but spectra not analysed (no Langmuir data for tile 4)
Actions:
- Follow-up meeting with FZJ to discuss about IBA analysis of LID-QMS spots and fresh surfaces next to laser spots to check if laser removed all D

VR activities in 2024: Characterization of JET plasma facing and diagnostics components using ion beam analysis – plans 15mSpeakers: D. Primetzhofer (VR), M. Rubel (VR), P. Petersson (VR)
Tasks in 2024:
- Review of 15N and 18O data. These markers were puffed into plasma during last day of C wall in 2009
- 15N and 18O data published in different papers but data is somewhat scattered
- Comparison of u-NRA data with LID-QMS, i.e. analysis of laser spots with u-beam to determine if LID-QMS laser has desorbed D completely
- Analysis of pre-damaged mirrors which will be removed in 2024
Actions:
- Follow-up meeting with FZJ and IST to dicuss about analysis of LID-QMS spots
- Follow-up meeting with CCFE to discuss about activity of pre-damaged mirrors

- Participation in LIBS installation & commissioning at UKAEA

- Review planning for LIBS measurement locations following final JET operations with RE

- Finalization of baking cycle experiments
- Finalization of retention in Be (poloidal limiters and UDP, including melt damage)
- Studies of retention in bulk W (tile 5 lamella samples)
- Microscopy, comparison of RE and typical disruption damage to Be upper limiter
- Coordination activity, sample distribution, sample preparation, contact for JET DTE3 samples
